Investor Panel, Nov 1

Improve your entrepreneurial ability by attending the Investor Panel on Tuesday, November 1. Ed Engler, Managing Partner at Pittsburgh Equity Partners, and Craig Gomulka, CIO of Innovation Works, will share their knowledge on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial investing. Topics will include how professional investors evaluate potential investments, how to successfully approach a professional investor, and lessons that every entrepreneur should learn before starting a company and raising money.

-- Mike Woycheck, Program Manager at Alpha Labs will introduce the Alpha Labs Incubator program

-- Logan Powell, co-Founder of Krowder, will give a talk, followed by an open Q and A session. A brief description of their work:

" Combining the virtues of distributed computing and crowd-sourcing with the physical world of transportation, this company is working on a local e-commerce web platform that integrates a delivery system that allows the users themselves to provide the pick up and delivery services for the other users. Ever wanted to get something from a seller on craigslist, but neither you nor the seller could / wanted to transport it? That's something we fix among many other instances of convenient delivery options.

We seek to completely disrupt local commerce by creating an "everything is deliverable" marketplace that encompasses anyone from the individual to the corporation as buyers, sellers and local transporters / couriers."

Innovation Accelerator/ Innovation Summit by NSF in CMU

CMU is hosting this innovation summit, sponsored by the NSF and its private partner, the Innovation Accelerator. Entrepreneurs, early-stage companies, and anyone who might ever be interested in applying for an NSF SBIR (Small business Innovation Research) award are encouraged to attend. The purpose of the Innovation Accelerator @ Carnegie Mellon is to stimulate the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem of Pittsburgh and to support Carnegie Mellon's leadership role in this system.

Events on Campus-- Legal Workshop and Tepper Cross Campus event

Project Olympus is organizing a legal workshop on how to structure financial investments (especially those from friends and family) to avoid issues in the future. The presenter will be David J. Lehman, a partner at K&L Gates on Tuesday, Sept 27, 2011 from 5:30pm-7:00 p.m. at NSH 3305. Refreshments will be served.

The Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Club at Tepper School are organizing a cross campus event-- "Entrepreneur’s Bullpen".

Startup Open Registration

The submissions deadline for Startup Open, a featured competition at Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011 that recognizes startups with high-growth potential, is now only two weeks away (September 15).

Entrepreneurs who have a "startup moment" between GEW 2010 and GEW 2011 (Nov. 22, 2010 to Nov. 20, 2011) are eligible to take part.
